Spritz, Spray OR Stencils....!

Inky fingers are the order of the day over at Simon Says Stamp and Show as we would love to see a little SPRITZ, SPRAY OR STENCILS, and if you are like me you will finish with wonderful inky fingers!

I decided to create an inky collaged canvas this week, adding into the mix plenty of Dylusions Ink Sprays, Crafters Workshop Templates Mini Cursive Alpha, Mini Daisy Cluster and Dyan Reaveley stencil Chequered Dots, along with stamped images from Dyan Reaveley Basic Backgrounds.
I found a tall thin canvas in my collection of goodies and as I am trying to use up items that are lying around this item was a great starting point. I began by cutting a piece of Claudine Hellmuth's Natural Sticky Back Canvas to the same size as my canvas as I thought this would give me more flexibility to work especially as I wanted to add a little machine stitching.  I began by applying Gesso through the  Mini Daisy Cluster stencil to two areas of my canvas and setting aside to dry.   The next step was to spritz the canvas with water and then spray with Dylusions ink sprays vibrant turquoise, pure sunshine and lemon zest.  I blotted with kitchen towel and then reapplied the colours.
I stamped the alphabet from the Basic Backgrounds set with coffee and monarch orange Archival Ink to give a further layer of interest. A little more Gesso was added through the Chequered Dots stencil to lighten the canvas a little along with a little inking through the Mini Cursive Alpha template using coffee ink. A little random stitching was added for further interest and dimension.  Once the colouring was complete I then coloured a second large sheet of water colour card in exactly the same way which I then used to cut my Mini Tattered Florals.  I also added a little monarch orange Archival Ink to the edges of the two darker florals to coordinate with my background colours. To add a little more interest to my florals I also added a metal element in the form of Idea-ology Foliage.
Once all the spritzing and spraying was complete I did have a considerable amount of coloured kitchen roll lying around from my mopping up, so I decided I would put a little to good use and added a few layers of the kitchen towel to represent stems adhering with watered down PVA glue. The kitchen towel also adds fabulous texture to the canvas. Before adhering the florals to the canvas I adhered the decorated piece to my canvas base to make it a little sturdy and for hanging purposes.  Chitchat stickers were also added, I love to use lettering and words in my creations.
I do think with this type of creation its all about the LAYERS of interest that add so much interest to this type of make and its the little details that make it for me such as the random stamping onto the kitchen towel, the use of the kitchen towel that would otherwise be binned and the tiny wording.

For more great ideas please pop over to the Simon Says Stamp and Show blog and take a look at my fellow team members they have created some inspirational projects. Remember there is also the chance to win a $50 prize from Simon Says Stamp.  I always look forward to seeing your creations each week.
