A Vintage Journey - Tag Friday

As there are five Fridays in March we have a Tag Friday post for you this week. Pop over to A Vintage Journey to see my fellow team members artwork.
I decided to decorate one of Tim Holtz Etcetera tags using Seth Apter's monoprint technique. I use this technique usually with acetate for Distress Inks but thought I would try Seth's adaptation using card.
There are so many layers of paint on this tag that I have lost count. Adding paint in this way gives fantastic texture to the design and each piece is unique. I used Seth's paints Mud Splat, Green Patina, Smoked Paprika and Key Lime from his PaperArtsy range. I did begin by adding a random layer of Mud Splat paint to the background using a paintbrush but I did not think about this too much and left some open areas that were not covered with the paint. I then began layering the paint over and over, applying the paint to a piece of card and then pressing the card onto the background of the tag, using different pressure each time.
I used one of Seth Apter's Wood Chips for the centre piece which I painted with Green Patina and then added Mud Splat using the monoprint method. I love how random this technique is and it really does take away the thinking process of applying paint. I also added a vintage wood/bone domino wrapped with rusty tin wire for added interest. I have also included an embroidery hoop for added dimension.
From this picture you can see all the fabulous texture and layers I have added to the design. I also included some twisted rusty tin wire using Eileen Hull's Twist and Style Tool along with a Tim Holtz Quote Chip.
For me texture really adds to a design and this piece really has texture in abundance from many layers of paint and added wooden pieces and rusty wire.
I also included two more vintage dominos to the bottom of the tag along with more rusty tin wire.
One of Tim Holtz Paper Dolls sits nicely on the rusty tin wire and finishes the tag perfectly for me.

Dreamer of Dreams

I decorated one of Tim Holtz Etcetera tags today just for fun.
The background is coloured with Distress Oxides Broken China and Cracked Pistachio.
I added two adorable Paper Dolls from Tim's range, colouring their dresses with Cracked Pistachio Distress Crayon and they stand on an old pair of scissors, painted with Distress Paints.
I added a circle of silver wire to act as a spotlight and added some of Tim Holtz Chatter Design Tape. I have also added a Clippings Sticker to the scissors.
A Quote Chip and Index Clips add further dimension and texture to the design.
I have added a touch of stencilling using Tim's Nordic Stencil, which I love and I have also added delicate splatters of white paint. I also dry brushed white paint across the raised areas of the stencilling.
I also added a few flowers from Tim's Bouquet.

Eileen Hull New Release - Heartfelt Collection

Wecome back to my third post showcasing Eileen Hull's new release showcased at Creativation (CHA) 2017. You can view the whole range HERE.
This week I am showcasing two of Eileen's dies the first one being the Scoreboards XL Die - Basket.  I opted for a piece full of colour this week. If you would like to see my previous posts for Eileen's New Release you can find week 1 - Mixed Media Journal  (HERE) and week 2 Masculine Journal (HERE).
I die cut the basket from mountboard and decided on my paint colours for the background.
I began to add my layers of colour, applying with my finger.
I dried each layer of paint so that I did not get any muddying of colours.
I then continued to add layers of colour with my fingers. Do not think about this too much, simply add the colour randomly to the background and then dry with a heat tool.
I continued to add the layers of paint and I also added some circles using an old lid. Applying the paint to the lid and then pressing the lid onto the background and then drying with a heat tool.
I added some scratchy lines with an old credit card and black paint.
A touch of paint has been added through Tim Holtz Chevron Layering Stencil for further interest.
Die cut a heart from white card and then draw around the hearts onto the background using a white pen.
I then applied Broken China Distress Paint around the outside of the hearts. Add a couple of layers of paint and then dry with a heat tool.
I added Hitch Fasteners to attach the handles to the basket.
I also added a Tim Holtz Sticker and delicate splatters of white paint for further interest.
I added a stitched 'SUNSHINE' to my basket full of sunshine (again another new release from Eileen).
I love the touches of black that randomly appear in the hearts. I also added a touch more scribbly lines around the hearts using a white pen.
The next release is Eileen's House/Pocket Stitchlts Die. This die could quite easily be used as a house or a pocket. I die cut two of my houses from corrugated card to give wonderful texture to my pieces.
I began by brayering Squeezed Lemonade over the corrugated card, using only a light touch. I then brayered a layer of Picked Raspberry Distress Paint over the card and dried with  my heat tool.
I took an image of me when I was a child and then did an image transfer onto the background using DecoArt Matte Medium. I love the ghose like image which I think works perfectly on the design.
I added a second image transfer onto my second house.
I used a PaperArtsy stencil to add LIFE to the top of my house, adding white highlights with a white pen.
I scribbled distress pen onto a non-stick craft sheet and then added a shadow around my images with a waterbrush.
Delicate splatters of paint and painty circles have also been added.
I also added Remnant Rubs for further interest and stamped my sentiments with Black Archival Ink. I also applied Vintage Photo Distress Ink to the edges of each house.

Stay True

I could not sleep last night so thought I would take the opportunity to create a card.
I opted for a masculine card using Distress Oxide Inks Vintage Photo and Broken China.
I added Grunge Paste through one of Tim's Layering Stencils and then sanded the Paste once it was dry. I also included some of Tim's new Design Tape called Chatter along with a Quote Chip.
One of Tim's Paper Dolls sits perfectly on the frame, also from Tim which I coloured with Broken China Distress Paint.
A few pieces of Ephemera and some delicate background stamping complete my card.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a lovely weekend. Tracy x x

Eileen Hull New Release - Heartfelt Collection 2017

Welcome back to our month long showcase of Eileen Hull's new Heartfelt Collection release showcased at Creativation (CHA) 2017. You can find the whole release HERE.
This week I am showcasing Eileen's XL Scoreboards Journal Die once again. To see my first journal click on the link HERE (this will show how to put the journal together with step by step pictures). Once again I added watercolour paper to my journal and used wax thread to bind the pages.
  1. Die cut the front and back cover of the journal.
  2. Cover both the front and back cover with vintage music pages. Adhere the pages using DecoArt Matte Medium.
  3. Die cut Eileen Hull's Luggage Tag Die from kraft card ( I only used the back panel from the die cut). Apply Vintage Photo Distress Ink to a non-stick craft sheet, spritz with water and then mop up the ink with the panel. This gives a lovely aged feel to the die cut piece.
  4. Add wire mesh to the background and then add the die cut piece. Add random stamping to the die cut piece using Tim Holtz Ledger background stamp and Black Archival Ink. Add Remnant Rubs for further interest.
  5. I added a vintage oil dropper to my cover, I love the quirky feel to this.
  6. I also added a vintage photo and then placed a vintage clock rim over the photo for added dimension.
I also included a stitched heart and vintage ruler tape.
I added a mix of vintage papers, watercolour paper and decorative paper to my journal.

Eileen Hull 2017 New Release

This month Eileen Hull's Design Team are showcasing Eileen's new Heartfelt Collection release showcased at Creativation in January 2017. You can find the entire release HERE.
My first piece is showcasing Eileen's fabulous XL Scoreboards Journal Die. This die is fantastic for weddings, mixed media, diary/calendar, visitors book, traveler's notebook, the possibilities are endless. You can either add your own pages or add the Midori inserts which are all the rage at the moment.

Die cut the front and back cover from mountboard and then paint each of the covers with a coat of Raw Umber DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic Paint. Once the paint is dry apply a coat of DecoArt Media Crackle Paint.
Sand the edges of each cover.
As you sand the edges the undercoat of Raw Umber is more visible adding to the aged feel of the design.
Once all the layers were dry I added a wash of Raw Umber DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic Paint to highlight the cracks.
The wash of paint seeps into all the cracks and highlights the cracks even further.
I added chicken wire to my cover which I painted with Raw Umber DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic Paint to age a little further.
I attached the chicken wire with a piece of rusty tin wire thread through the front cover. I love the texture the wire gives to the design.
I added one of Tim Holtz frames which I aged a little with a touch of Raw Umber DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic Paint. I also added a vintage picture behind  my frame.
I continued to add layers of the Raw Umber Fluid Acrylic to age the frame further.
I then added a touch of rust using DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic Quinacridone Gold.
I added the stitched LOVE and small heart which are also dies from Eileen's new release. I love the pop of blue from the heart against the more neutral rustic tones.
I added some vintage ruler tape behind my frame along with some rusty tin wire twisted using Eileen Hull's fabulous Twist and Style Tool.
The flower, again from Eileen's collection was coloured with Distress Ink and then metallic wax added to the edges. I added a metal shaped flower behind for added dimension along with a metallic brad to the centre.
I added a mix of watercolour pages and vintage music pages to the inside of my journal.
I sanded the edges of my journal further with sandpaper and then added Raw Umber Fluid Acrylic to the eges to age further.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Pop by Eileen's BLOG to see what my fellow DT members have created with Eileen's fabulous new release this month.
